Ola Electric Scooters Official Registration Numbers A Fraction Of Company Claims

- Ola Electric official registrations in December stands at 239 scooters
- Ola Electric claims over 4,000 scooters were despatched in December 2021
- Official data on January 6, 2021 reveal registrations of 439 Ola scooters
Government registration data available on the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways indicate that the number of registered Ola Electric scooters is far less than what is being claimed as despatched by the company. Deliveries for the Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters began on December 15, and Ola Electric's CEO Bhavish Aggarwal took to Twitter on December 31, 2021, to announce that deliveries of all electric scooters purchased in the month of December had been completed. Aggarwal though clarified that some scooters were in transit, and some still undergoing registration process. According to multiple news reports, Arun Sirdeshmukh, Chief Business Officer of Ola Electric has said that the company has shipped almost 4,000 electric scooters in December.

Ola Electric claims as many as 4,000 electric scooters have been despatched to customers during December 2021.
carandbike reached out to Ola Electric to get an official response on the number of electric scooters delivered to customers, but so far, there has been no response from the company. According to data available on the official Vahaan website, during December 2021, when Ola Electric started delivering its electric scooters, only 238 scooters were registered by the end of the month. This is far lower than the 4,000 electric scooters that Ola claims to have despatched during the month. Ola Electric doesn't have any dealerships and follows a doorstep delivery model.

Ola S1 electric scooter production also slows down, according to recent reports.
The data on the official Vahaan website does not include Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Telangana. Even if taking into account official holidays and delays in updating the registration data on the government website, the number of 238 is far lower than what is being claimed by Ola Electric of 4,000 deliveries. Up till January 6, 2021, at the time of writing this story, government registration data shows only 439 Ola electric scooters registered, with January registrations accounting for 201 scooters so far. Even this figure is far less than what is being claimed by Ola Electric.

Ola S1 Electric Scooter deliveries began from December 15, 2021.
The Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters fall under the high-speed electric scooter segment and need to be registered before being delivered to customers. Many customers have taken to social media on receiving delivery of their Ola electric scooters. Even if there have been delays in registration, the numbers of actual deliveries seem to be far less than the number of customers who were promised delivery before the end of December 2021.

Meanwhile, Ola Electric has announced that the next purchase window for its electric scooters will open sometime this month. However, with deliveries clearly hitting a speed breaker, and reports of production at Ola's Futurefactory also slowing down, it won't be all smooth sailing for Ola Electric, at least in the next couple of months. Sooner than later, it will be the Ola Electric brand which will be hit, despite creating hype and noise around a product as well as brand name which has not been able to acquire any solid brand equity so far.
