Renault Captur Sub-Compact SUV to Rival Ford EcoSport in India?

After tasting success with the Reanault Duster - the country's first compact SUV - the French automaker is now planning to bring in the sub-compact SUV 'Captur' in India, claims a report published in Business Standard. Measuring below 4 metres in length, the Captur will take on the likes of Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha.
While the global version of the Captur is 4.12 metres in length , the company will have to reduce its length to avail excise duty benefits given to cars below 4-metres in India. If the company, somehow, gets successful in bringing its length down and achieving higher level of localisation, the sub-compact SUV will be priced as low as the Ford EcoSport.

Just you know, the Captur is based on the 4th generation Renault Clio platform The car is already on sale in its home market France and is fetching good numbers for the maker. Talking about the engine options, the company might use the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units that, currently, power other Renault products in India.

Other two products that Renault India is planning to launch this year are Lodgy MPV and a small 800cc car. The company is currently struggling to sell any other product except the Duster, is aiming to improve its market share with contemporary segments like sub-compact SUV and compact MPV.
