ROC cancelled

This year's Race of Champions, which was scheduled to be held on December 14-15 of this year in the Thai capital Bangkok, has been cancelled by the event organizers due to the mounting violence as a result of protests against the country's current prime minister.

Four people were killed in protests that broke out today prompting Race of Champions organizers to take the call against hosting the event this year.

The event, which has become an annual fixture following the end of major motor sport series and championships featuring drivers and riders from Formula 1, MotoGP, World Rally Championship, DTM and Australian V8 Supercars.

Drivers from India participated last year with the country's first two F1 drivers Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok (pictured in buggy) winning the Asian championship, which allowed them to compete in the main championship against the likes of Team Germany's Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.

Team India lost to Team Germany in controversial circumstances after Schumacher was seen altering the temporary chicanes on the circuit built in the infield of Bangkok's Rajamangala Stadium before the two teams went head to head.
