A brand which has almost zero recall in the Indian market may not make strategic sense for Bajaj Auto.

- Overall vehicle sales grew 17.7 per cent in August, with two-wheeler sales growing 16.63 per cent with volumes of 15.6 lakh units in August 2022.
- Passenger car sales accounted for 2.8 lakh units with 21% growth
- SUV sales accounted for nearly half of passenger car sales
The Society Of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released the sales report for August 2022. The passenger vehicle segment witnessed a hike of 21.1 per cent selling 2,81,210 units last month compared to 2,32,224 units sold in the corresponding month a year ago. The passenger car category recorded a growth of 23 per cent selling 1,33,477 units in August 2022 compared to 1,08,508 units sold in the corresponding month a year ago. Sales of SUVs are also in recovery mode as the segment registered a 20 per cent growth selling 1,35,497 units in August 2022 compared to 1,12,863 units sold in August 2021. In the same period, sales of Vans witnessed an uptick of 12.7 per cent selling 12,236 units as compared to 10,853 units sold a year ago.
Sales of passenger cars witnessed an uptick of 23 per cent selling 1,33,477 units as compared to 1,08,508 units sold a year ago.

Commenting on the August 2022 sales data, Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said “In August 2022, sales in the Passenger vehicle segment stood at 2.8 lakh units, Two-wheelers posted sales of 15.6 lakh units, while Three-wheeler segment posted sales of just 38,000 units. While good monsoon and the upcoming festive season is likely to increase demand, SIAM is keeping a close watch on the dynamic supply-side challenges. High CNG prices is a big challenge for the industry and we keenly look forward to the kind interventions and support from the Government.
The SUV segment, on the other hand, witnessed a hike of 20 per cent selling 1,35,497 units last month compared to 1,12,863 units sold in the corresponding month a year ago.

The two-wheeler sales also received a push in the post-pandemic era with a 16.33 per cent growth selling cumulatively 15,57,429 units in August 2022 period as compared to 13,38,740 units sold in August 2021. The scooter segment saw a hike of 9.5 per cent selling 5,04,146 units in July 2022 compared to 4,60,284 sold in the corresponding month a year ago. The motorcycle and step-through segment recorded an upward trajectory as well, with a 23.1 per cent growth selling 10,16,794 units last month compared to 8,25,849 units sold in August 2021. Moreover, 64 units of quadricycles were sold in August this year, compared to only 3 units sold in August 2021.
The two-wheeler sales also received a push in the post-pandemic era with a 16.33 per cent growth selling cumulatively 15,57,429 units in August 2022.
As for three-wheelers, the total sale saw a leap of 62.5 per cent, selling 38,369 units in August 2022 compared to 23,606 units sold in August 2021. Of these, the passenger carrier three-wheelers saw an almost two fold growth, going from 15,045 units in August 2021 to 29,105 units in August 2022. E-Rickshaws and E-carts also registered multifold growths, with e-rickshaw sales going from 746 units to 2,095 units recording a 180 per cent increase, and e-carts going from 42 units sold in August 2021 to 162 units sold in August 2022. Overall, 18,77,072 vehicles were sold in August 2022, recording a 17.7 percent growth over the figures of August 2021.
