Tesla Model Y Electric SUV Launched In India: All You Need To Know

Tesla has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its all-electric Model Y SUV. Priced from Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Model Y marks the brand’s debut in India with its first outlet located at Maker Maxity in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex. Here is everything you need to know about the first Tesla vehicle in India.

Tesla Model Y: Variants and Prices
The Model Y is available in two rear-wheel-drive variants – Standard Range and Long Range – priced at Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom prices).
Tesla Model Y: Performance and Range
The Standard Range variant accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 5.9 seconds and offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 500 km. The Long-Range version performs slightly better, doing 0 to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds and offering a range of up to 622 km.
Tesla Model Y: Dimensions
In terms of dimensions, the Model Y measures 4,790 mm in length, 1,982 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a ground clearance of 167 mm. It rides on 19-inch wheels and has a kerb weight of 1,928 kg for the Standard variant and 1,901 kg for the Long Range.
Tesla Model Y: Colour schemes
Tesla offers the SUV in six exterior colour options. Stealth Grey is the standard finish, while other colours such as Pearl White Multi-Coat and Diamond Black cost Rs 95,000 extra. Glacier Blue is priced at Rs 1.25 lakh, and both Quicksilver and Ultra Red come at a premium of Rs 1.85 lakh. Buyers can also opt for a beige-and-black interior theme for an additional Rs 95,000.

Tesla Model Y: Features
The Model Y in India comes equipped with features including a 15.4-inch central touchscreen and a secondary 8.0-inch display for rear passengers. It also includes powered, heated, and ventilated front seats, electrically folding and heated rear seats, a 9-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, powered air-conditioning vents for both front and rear passengers, a panoramic glass roof, built-in dashcam functionality, eight external cameras and more.
Tesla Model Y: FSD
An optional Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is also available at an additional cost of Rs 6 lakh. While this system provides near-autonomous driving capability in markets where it is legally permitted, its functionality in India is likely to depend on future regulatory approvals.
Tesla Model Y: Bookings and Deliveries
Bookings for the Model Y are now open, with an initial reservation amount of Rs 22,220, followed by a booking amount of Rs 3 lakh within one week. The SUV is being imported as a completely built unit (CBU), with deliveries of the Standard Range variant expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025. The Long-Range variant will follow in the fourth quarter of the same year.
Tesla Model Y: Warranty
Tesla offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km on the entire vehicle, whichever comes first. In addition, the battery and drive unit are covered by an 8-year or 1.92 lakh km warranty, whichever occurs first.
Tesla Model Y: Charging
Tesla plans to establish four charging stations each in Mumbai and Delhi, featuring a total of 16 Superchargers in both cities. Additionally, Mumbai will see the installation of 16 Destination Chargers, while Delhi will have 15.
