Top 5 Subcompact Sedans To Buy From The Used Car Market

When you are looking for an entry-level used car, the most common choice would be going for a hatchback. However, they do not really suit everyone's needs. Most of them are not really spacious enough for a family, and boot space is always limited. So, if you too are looking for a compact entry-level used car, which can also be a family car, then we would suggest going for a subcompact sedan. They are compact enough to drive in traffic conditions yet offer enough space for those weekend outings. While you will find a tonne of options in the used car market, here are 5 cars that we think you must consider.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Depending on the model year and condition of the car, you can get a used Maruti Suzuki Dzire for around Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.
The Dzire is one of the top-selling cars in India and is the quintessential car if you are looking for a spacious and frugal sedan. The cabin can comfortably seat 4 people and while the current third-gen model does offer a decent 378-litre boot space, the older-gen model offered a luggage space of 464 litres. You will find both the 1.2-litre petrol and now discontinued the 1.3-litre diesel option in the used car market. Depending on the model year and condition of the car, you can get a used Maruti Suzuki Dzire for around Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.

Honda Amaze
You can get a used Amaze for Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, depending on the model year and condition of the car.
The Honda Amaze is yet another good option to go for. While the current-gen model offers decent space with proper exterior proportions, the previous-gen Amaze had a quirky design and a spacious cabin. The fit and finish on both are nice, and both versions come with 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the older Amaze only offered a CVT automatic with the petrol model as an option, the current-gen Amaze gets a CVT with the diesel option as well. In fact, it's the first and only diesel CVT model in this space. You can get a used Amaze for Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, depending on the model year and condition of the car.

Ford Aspire
You can get one for around Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, depending on its condition and model year.
The Ford Aspire was one of the nicer sedans in the entry-level segment. The car came with good fit and finish, and a solid build, and had that signature look of an American sedan. Sadly, Ford discontinued the car after ending local production last year. That said, you can still find the Aspire in the used car market. It was offered in both a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Our pick would be the latter. You can get one for around Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, depending on its condition and model year.
Hyundai Xcent/Aura
While you can get a used Hyundai Xcent for around Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh, a used Aura will be priced around Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.
The Hyundai Xcent was introduced to rival the Dzire and the car has quite a decent run. A few years ago, it was replaced by its new-gen avatar, which was called the Hyundai Aura. The car was offered in both petrol and diesel engine options, and you will find a host of Xcent sedans in the used car market. It offered a spacious cabin and good performance. Depending on the model year and condition of the car you can get one for around Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh. You can also look for the Aura. It comes with better styling, premium fit and finish and modern creature comforts. However, the car is fairly new and will be available in very limited numbers, and even a used Aura will be priced around Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.
Tata Tigor
You can get a used Tata Tigor for Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 6.5 lakh.
The Tata Tigor subcompact sedan was launched in India in 2017 and is a very capable and safe car. It has received a 4-star safety rating from the Global NCAP and is very sturdy when it comes to build quality. The Tigor is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes with a manual and AMT gearbox. The pre-facelift model also came with a diesel engine, which will also be available in the used car market. You can get a used Tigor for Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 6.5 lakh.
