Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) has introduced a free tractor rental scheme to support small farmers of Tamil Nadu during this crucial cropping season, amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. As reported by ETAuto, this free tractor rental scheme would cover around 1.2 lakh acres which will benefit approximately 50,000 farmers in the state. This scheme for small farmers will be available from May 2021 till July 2021. The Indian tractor major will provide around 16,500 Massey Ferguson and Eicher tractors and 26,800 implements on a free-of-cost rental basis to small farmers owning two acres or less.

Farmers can rent or hire tractors or farm implements through the brand's digital platform on the Tamil Nadu government's Uzhavan app. This initiative will be implemented with the support of the state agriculture department and district officials.

Mallika Srinivasan, chairman and managing director, TAFE said to ETAuto, "With the encouragement and support of the Tamil Nadu government, TAFE is happy to offer free-of-cost rental services to the small and marginal farmers of Tamil Nadu. TAFE will offer its Massey Ferguson and Eicher tractors along with farm implements to support the small and marginal farmers through this critical time and crucial cropping season. We thank the chief minister for his focus on farmer welfare and the agricultural minister for their support towards the free tractor rental scheme."

Recently, the Chennai-based tractor manufacturer also offered 500 Oxygen Concentrators to the Government of Tamil Nadu. The company aims to strengthen the fight against COVID-19 with the distribution of these oxygen concentrators to various primary healthcare centres and small hospitals in rural areas and small towns. The company's senior officials handed over a cheque of Rs. 1 crore to Hon'ble Chief Minister M K Stalin for the procurement of oxygen cylinders.
