Uber CEO Says Vaccination Will Not Be Mandatory For Drivers And Riders
- Dara Khosrowshahi said vaccinations will not be mandatory for drivers
- He also said that it would be mandatory for workers coming back to office
- He felt it was unfair on drivers as it was impossible to police the rider
Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has said that employees returning to its main office in San Francisco will need to be vaccinated. However, the same rule will not apply to its driver-partners and potential customers who take Uber rides as it would be very hard for them to police and implement.
"White-collar workers, you're spending time together in an office eight hours a day, 10 hours a day," Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told CNBC's Squawk Box in an interview this week.
The Uber boss feels it is unfair to both drivers and riders and it is impossible to police
"Based on the [Delta] variant and the health concerns there it was an easy call in terms of coming back to the office," he added.
Uber which has over 100 million riders and drivers constantly moving monthly revealed that there will be no such vaccine mandate instituted by it as this wasn't the responsibility of a corporate
"It would only be fair to require vaccines for both riders and drivers. To put that responsibility, that kind of decision making power on a company, I don't think is right," Khosrowshahi added.
