These royal families still retain a privileged socio-economic position and are also the owners of some of the most exotic and rare vintage car collections that are worth a fortune.
Here are some of the most glamorous vintage cars owned by the royal families of India.
1925 HISPANO-SUIZA H6B

The Maharaja of Mysore of the Vijayanagara Empire owned a 1925 Hispano Suiza H6B. This vintage car is a straight six-cylinder 6.5-liter V12 with a rolling chassis built by Hispano-Suiza. It is the only surviving Saoutchik bodywork in the world. The car had such a following that the Maharaja of Alwar ordered a customized cabriolet version of the H6B for himself. This vintage car is now a heritage property owned by the Gedee Car Museum, Coimbatore.

1936 MERCEDES-BENZ TYP 290

Yuvraj Dhananjai Singh of Khimsar, Jodhpur, owns a classic 1936 Mercedes-Benz Typ 290. The torpedo-shaped car has a 60HP power output and was one of the fastest production cars in its time. The Typ 290 is among the most sought-after cars for vintage car collectors. It has even featured in prestigious shows like the 21 Gun Salute International vintage car rally.
1937 BENTLEY 4.25 LITRE MX SERIES

Manufactured in the pre-war era, the 1937 Bentley 4.25-litre MX Series is a vintage car owned by the Maharani Gayatri Devi, the Rajmata of Jaipur. It has a 4.25-litre (4257 cc) engine and was valued recently at £3,40,000. The Maharaja of Jaipur once used this vintage car. W.O. Bentley collaborated with Lagonda to make this after the latter quit his company in 1935.

1956 MERCEDES-BENZ 300 SL ROADSTER

Maharaja Jyotendra Singhji of Gondal owns an iconic two-seater 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster. It is one of the first sports-car-style models that Mercedes-Benz manufactured commercially, with a maximum speed of 263 kmph. The Maharaja even raced this vintage car with his super-fast Jaguar XK 150s from his vintage car collection.
1912 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER GHOST

The VI Nizam of Hyderabad owned a 1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. This now-vintage car was once the Nizam's throne car, used for state ceremonial purposes. It has featured in international vintage car events like Cartier's Concours d'Élegance. It managed to clock 326 miles during its lifetime and has a current value of about £2.5 million.
