What To Do When Your Car Breaks Down?

Having car troubles in the middle of the road can be a frustrating experience. Moreover, when your car breaks down between the route, it can pose safety issues. Most of us panic and are unaware of what to do in such a situation. This article talks about a few things you can do when your car breaks down. Let's get started!
Switch On the Hazard Lights
The first thing to do would be to turn on the hazard/emergency lights in your car. These lights will alert the drivers in proximity that something's wrong. We recommend you keep these lights on till help arrives at the location.

Slow Down and Park on the Side
The next step would be to slow down and park the vehicle off the road. It can be difficult and dangerous for you and the other drivers if you leave the car in-between the road. Make sure you pick a spot that is flat and far from the traffic.
Put the Vehicle on Emergency Brake
Several motor vehicle departments across the country suggest drivers pull the emergency brakes in such situations. This suggestion is helpful if your car has suddenly stopped on a hill or a slope. Also, turn the car's wheels away from the traffic to prevent any mishaps.

Stay Inside the Vehicle
If you are between a busy road or a highway, it is safer to sit inside the vehicle until help arrives. Moreover, you shouldn't get down amidst a jam-packed road and try to fix the car yourself. It would be best if you only got out of the vehicle after parking it in a safe spot.
Make Sure You're Visible
Another thing to do when your car breaks down is to ensure that your vehicle is visible. The other drivers might not be aware that your car has broken down, which can be an obstacle for them. So, once you're out of the vehicle, prop up your car's hood to let others know that they should be cautious.

Set Up Triangles
One of the most challenging situations is when your car breaks down on a dimly lit, busy road. To prevent the dangers of such a situation, you can set up flares or triangles. These flares with reflectors will notify your car's presence on the road.
Call for Help!
You can use the road emergency landline numbers to get roadside assistance. The traffic police can also help you contact emergency towing services. We also recommend you keep the on-road assistance contact numbers handy if your car ever breaks down.
