2022 World Car Awards: Mercedes-Benz EQS Wins Luxury Car Of The Year

The World Car Awards 2022 have been finally announced and the Mercedes-Benz EQS has been crowned the World Luxury Car of the Year. The German automaker's flagship electric saloon made its global debut last year and the car is the electric equivalent of the S-Class, which deems fit considering the seventh-generation S-Class was crowned Luxury Car of the Year in 2021. The other cars in contention this year included the BMW iX and the Genesis GV70.

The 2022 World Car Awards jury from nearly 30 countries selected the winners across all six categories via a secret ballot. The Mercedes-Benz EQS impressed with its sharp styling while offering a drag coefficient of just 0.20. The EQS comes with a rear-wheel steering system with a standard 4.5 degree of rear steering angle. Powertrain options range from 328 bhp motor to the more powerful 518 bhp on the EQS 580. Both versions get a 107.8 kW lithium-ion battery with a claimed range of 770 km on the WLTP test cycle.
The EQS is the first in an extended range of EQ models to use Mercedes-Benz's dedicated EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform. The car is produced in Sindelfingen, Germany. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz will bring the new EQS to India later this year but the big news is that the car will be assembled in the country at the automaker's Chakan facility.
