How do car manufacturers celebrate milestones? Usually by coming out with a special edition of the car, and Land Rover hasn't strayed away from that path. The Land Rover Discovery turns 25 this year, and the firm will celebrate with a new special edition model - the Discovery XXV.
Based on the top-spec Discovery HSE Luxury, the XXV already features an 825w Meridian stereo, leather upholstery and 20-inch alloys, but it also gets something special. The Discovery XXV features Narvik black grille surrounds, black trim on the grille and front wing vents.
Then there are the silver full-length roof rails, body-coloured door handles and a stainless steel bumper accessory tread plate with the 'Discovery XXV' badges on the door and tailgate. Talking about the car's 25th year, Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director at Jaguar Land Rover, said "The Discovery XXV Special Edition is the ultimate in sophisticated versatility and a fitting tribute to the legendary status of this iconic Land Rover."
The Discovery XXV gets a 252bhp 3.0-litre SDV6 turbodiesel engine that zooms from 0-100km/h in 8.8 seconds. It also gets the Land Rover off-road aids, including Terrain Response and Hill Descent Control. The Discovery has been here for 25 years and from what we know, the company is searching for an apt successor. We hope to see it soon.
