UNEXPLORED GARHWAL - First Winter Expedition To Border Region With Surya Warriors of The Indian Army

The border regions of Uttarakhand state, particularly Garhwal region hold within them unfathomable beauty. Most of us know it to be the abode of the sacred four dhams - Gangotri, Yamnotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath. Garhwal is a land of numerous sites with links to Indian Mythology and is also a popular destination for winter sports with picturesque Himalayan Ranges as backdrop. However, very few have experienced Garhwal during winter season where temperatures drop below 20 degree centigrade and a host of border areas close to LAC become out of bound for the civilians. This was the first ever winter expedition into the region, facilitated by the Surya Division of the Indian Army to unearth the tourism potential in the remote areas of Uttarakhand for unlocking the employment opportunities for the Garhwali locals.
