Expert Review on Land Rover Range Rover
Pros
- Good Off-Road Capability
- Impressive Fit And Finish
- Powerful Engine Performance
Cons
- A Bit Too Expensive
- Limited Storage Compartments
- Steering Performance Could Be Better
The Range Rover looks good and is all the SUV you need because it is luxurious, sophisticated and now well specced too. The car drives well too and given that it has been cleverly engineered and looks extremely good, so the design has been definitively leaned towards it being luxurious. While it does take on the fight to cars like the Bentayga, Urus and even the Porsche Cayenne; granted it might not be as dynamic as any of those cars but it certainly stands on its four feet and casts a niche for itself.
Range Rover
The JLR Range Rover is literally one of the best SUVs that money can buy at this point. The new version is even better with an extended wheelbase variant too. It is also the flagship for JLR which now comes packed with more features and luxuries than before.
The new Range Rover has a simple yet instantly recognizable design with the earlier design cues being given a more evolved touch this time around. There is a clear link to earlier Range Rover designs and it takes simplicity to a whole new dimension with the cleaner and smoother body lines while the front door metal piece ensures a nice contrast. There is the blacked-out theme for the pillars and the sloping floating roof like impact along with the horizontal beltline of the SUV and its majestic stance. There are sleeker LED headlamps with top-class detailing and there are slimmer fog lamps as well. The rear tail lamps are like sleek strips in black that encircle the tailgate (split). The design looks in sync with the fact that the SUV has an electric version due in the year 2024.
The Range Rover comes with a luxurious and big cabin although you have to step up a little high. The Access mode regulates the height-adjustable air suspension for lowering the body to the wheels, but even then, ingress and egress still requires a little work. There is an optional foot rest as well. There is superior quality inside and the flagship SV and extended wheelbase variants offer the most luxury and opulence alike. The SV gets the Intrepid and Serenity themes which are pre-fixed configurations, complete with bespoke trim and color combinations. Buyers can also personalize their SUVs with unlimited options at their fingertips. The four-seater Range Rover SV is the ultimate luxurious SUV with rear executive seats and 24-way power adjustment and one-touch operations. There is a rise function for the leg cushion and back-seat reclining along with cooling and massage functions alongside. The central console folds down electrically and there are electric operations for the folding table and cup holders. Everything is smooth, silent, and operated electrically. The touch screen controller on the central arm rest is also removable. Rear passengers get optional 11.4 inch touch screen systems with the Pivi Pro operating system for company. The long-wheelbase model has a seven-seat and three row option which is new for the flagship Range Rover version. All the seats are electrically powered, with the middle ones gliding ahead to ensure access to the rear. They can be electrically folded into the boot floor when they are not required as well. There is huge headroom and knee room at the last row although the high floor could be a hindrance.
The Range Rover comes with electrically operated functions for the seats, reclining, cooling, massage, and more. There is a central touch screen controller for all functions along with optional 11.4 touch screen infotainment options at the rear. There are 360-degree and underbody cameras along with a master 13.1 inch display and curved glass unit with a new Pivi Pro infotainment unit. There is also an instrument cluster which can be customized. There is also the Meridian audio unit with active noise cancellation and 34 speakers. There is also four zone automatic climate control, the ClearSight camera-based rear-view mirror inside and the Executive Class Comfort Plus rear seating choice.
Petrol | 3.0 litre | 394 PS | 550 Nm |
Diesel | 3.0 litre | 346 PS | 700 Nm |
The Range Rover gets two engine choices in India. Both engines have staggering power and torque figures and offer incredible driving experiences. There will be the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission option for the engines as well. The exhaust notes are sporty enough and the petrol engine offers great performance and refinement alike. The power delivery is linear with sporty revs and a punchy top-end. The diesel is refined and you get a nice note as well. The diesel feels better to drive due to its punchier mid-range and extra torque. You can cruise along the highway and get more efficiency at the same time.
The car changes directions neatly while the steering is great to drive as well. The huge SUV handles nimbly and you rarely feel its weight. The Range Rover is more agile with its rear-wheel steering and it has some body roll while cornering when you are on undulating roads, even when you make use of the Dynamic mode available. Ride and handling is the best you can expect with 23 inch and 21/22 inch options available. You can simply forget about potholes and rough roads. The Range Rover does have some noise at higher speeds but it is mostly silent. There are several off-road features and the go-anywhere ability is another plus point. It has huge ground clearance and rugged wheels.
- Diesel Automatic- 10.7 kmpl
- Petrol Automatic- 9.27 kmpl
The Range Rover gets several safety features including several cameras, blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, lane centering, 360-degree overhead camera, rear and front parking sensors and a lot more.
There are regular and extended wheelbase variants with four, five and seven seating configurations. There are four trims, namely the SE, Autobiography, HSE, and the First Edition. The HSE trim follows the SE Petrol while the Autobiography is what many buyers could opt for. The First Edition will be a limited offering and will cater to exclusive customers.
The Range Rover takes on rivals like the BMW X7, Mercedes Benz GLS, and the Audi Q7 in this category. It is one of the most luxurious and feature-packed offerings in the category although the pricing could be a tad on the higher side than many of its rivals since it is the flagship model from JLR.
The Range Rover SUV is not for everyone; it is a power-packed option for a discerning set of buyers with the money to afford something on this scale. Feature and safety-wise, it has no parallel in the category and the same can be said for its power and driving experiences. It will continue catering to a select few who desire one of the best SUVs that money can buy.

When driven through challenging environments, such as marshy trails or rugged landscapes, the Range Rover demonstrates its exceptional off-roading prowess, often leaving drivers amazed by its capabilities.
One of the key features contributing to its off-road excellence is the advanced air suspension system. The adaptability of the suspension plays a critical role in maintaining stability and comfort, even when traversing the most challenging terrains. This feature not only enhances the vehicle’s off-road capabilities but also ensures a comfortable ride for passengers, irrespective of the surface conditions.

This feature aids in spotting potential obstacles or hazards, such as large rocks or unexpected dips in the terrain. It provides drivers with a better view of the environment around the vehicle, making it easier to navigate through tricky paths and tight spots.
Furthermore, the Range Rover's four-wheel steering system deserves special mention. Its ability to pivot smoothly around sharp and tight turns is a testament to the vehicle’s agility and responsiveness. This feature is particularly beneficial in off-road conditions, where maneuvering through narrow paths and negotiating sharp turns is often required.
