2018 Hyundai Santro Spotted Testing In India

- The new Santro will take the place of the i10 in Hyundai's Indian line-up
- The new Santro will borrow styling cues from the Grand i10 facelift
- The 2018 Hyundai Santro will be more upmarket in design & features
We have already told you that Hyundai India is currently working on a new small car, internally known as the Hyundai AH2, that will bring the Santro nameplate back to India. A test mule of this upcoming all-new Hyundai Santro was recently spotted in the country in Delhi covered in heavy camouflage. While the images aren't very clear and we can only see the rear portion of the car, it seems like the new Hyundai Santro is nearing production stage. Hyundai India is expected to launch the car in the country around mid-2018, to rival the likes of Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Renault Kwid.

Judging by the images, this particular model appears to be one of the top-spec versions of the upcoming Hyundai Santro based on some of the exterior features that are visible. For instance, the car comes with a rear windshield wiper along with a set of block headlamps, and high mounted taillamps. Also, the car gets a set of nice wheel covers, which we believe will be offered even in the top-end model, considering the new Santro will be priced quite aggressively.

2018 Hyundai Santro will share some of its design cues with the Grand i10
Unfortunately, Hyundai has disguised the car with some faux cladding so we won't be able to comment more on the rear design of the car. Having said that, the last time a test mule of the car was spotted in the country, we had a much clearer view of the car and back then we had mentioned that the car's rear three quarter largely resembles the Grand i10. Although we still do not have an image of the car's front, we believe the Santro too, in line with the current Hyundai models, will come with a cascading grille with sharp headlamps, LED daytime running lights and a stylish front bumper.
We still do not have any information on the engine details but, based on segment trend, we expect to see a 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre engine options, possibly the same petrol mills that the i10 used to offer. Transmission duties to be carried out by a 5-Speed manual gearbox and Hyundai might also consider offering an AMT option, seeing the growing demand for an automatic option in entry-level cars in India.
