Animated movies and cars? Sounds like a winning combination indeed! Several smash-hit movies have come and gone over the decades, showing us some incredibly cute and appealing cars. It is tough to compile a best-ever list of animated cars used in movies but here's trying!
Mystery Machine in Scooby-Doo

The Mystery Machine is a famous van that gets a bright shade of paint, enticing emblems and flowered wheels. Every side had the name in orange paint on the green panel. It was the key transportation option for the investigative gang. The animated movies were released in the 1998-2001 period, featuring this van that was strangely similar to the Chevrolet Astro or the GMC Safari.
Lightning McQueen in Cars
Lightning McQueen is the iconic car used in the Cars movie dating back to 2006 and also the sequels Cars 2 in 2011 and Cars 3 in 2017. It also appeared on the television show called Cars Toons. This car was named after Glenn McQueen, a popular animator working at Pixar, and drew influences from the Dodge Viper and Mazda Miata. It is possibly one of the most iconic animated cars ever!
Space Car in The Jetsons
This was one advanced animated series in 1962, produced by Hanna-Barbara. Set in 2062, The Jetsons had this Space Car, a flying machine drawing inspiration from the FX-Atmos concept car shown by Ford in 1954. It was recognizable instantly, thanks to the full-glass canopy, the jet-plane tail fins and the radar screen equipped dashboard. The Jetson family went to work every day in aerocars which were like flying saucers that had bubble tops (transparent).
Mach 5 in Speed Racer
This is one of the most attractive animated cars that you have possibly seen! The name comes from the fact that speeds going above Mach 5 turn hypersonic. It is closely inspired by the Ford GT40, Nissan R380-88, 1968 Ferrari 250P5 and also the Ferrari 250. It could jump into the air, boost up the car for repairs, and got special tires for all terrains. It had protruding saws for removing obstacles in front as well!
Speed Buggy in Speed Buggy
This one has managed to remain relevant even today! With a debut in 1973, the Speed Buggy was reminiscent of the Mystery Machine in a way although it also was a charming little buggy with flying and talking abilities. The rust coloured vehicle had a mouth in chrome and eyes that doubled up as headlights. It could be run via remote control.
These imaginative wonders are still famous amongst fans across the world!
