Ariel Motor Company has taken the wraps off their new model named Nomad which according to the company boss Simon Saunders is the "Atom's mucky brother".
The new two-wheel drive Nomad comes with a significantly higher ground clearance and has chunky tyres which make it suitable for off-roading. The long-travel suspension and a complex rollover protection along with a reinforced chassis, gives it an edge and transforms it into a beast on any off-roading surface. The company has been testing prototypes with 15-inch alloy wheels shod in 235/70 tyres, but the production car will get a wide variety of wheel and tyre combos.
Powering the Nomad is a Honda-sourced four-cylinder 2.4-litre tuned engine which delivers approximately 200 bhp. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox also provided by Honda, the Ariel Nomad will also come with a mechanical limited slip differential offered as standard equipment but more high-tech systems will be available at an additional cost. Like all Ariel cars, this one is light and might have a kerb weight of 700 kgs.
