Aspark Owl Electric Hypercar Can Do 0-100kmph In 1.9 Seconds!

While that name may seem to have popped straight out of a Manga comic, Aspark in fact is a small Japanese firm which has made auto giants sit up and take notice. Developed completely in house, the Aspark Owl electric supercar recently set up a record run achieving 0-100kmph in just 1.921 seconds! Yeah, you read it right. In less than 2 seconds, the Aspark Owl electric supercar sits right above the likes of Bugatti and Tesla. Also, with an asking price upwards of $4 million when it does go to sale, the Aspark Owl for sure will be an ultra-elite car for the ultra-elites of the world.

Displayed first in the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, the car produces 425 bhp of max power and 763 Nm of peak torque from a set of 40 kW electric motors. This butterfly-doored marvel goes all the way up to 280kmph flat out and boasts of a 150 km range on a single charge. While this might not sound like much, when you put into consideration that this car weighs less than 860 kg, all of a sudden it makes sense.
There's a catch here however, or two. The Aspark Owl, during the test run, sports race grade tyres made by Hoosier which offer better grip than regular tyres. Also, a tyre warming burnout was done to get the most out of the rubber. The real deal though is the ultra-capacitors this car uses. Ultra-capacitors recharge and discharge very quickly and can supply huge doles of electric power in a very short amount of time. Electricity for this test is coming primarily from ultra-capacitors, not from batteries which, to some extent, explain the jaw dropping acceleration. This system is used to capture regenerative braking power (as in KERS) but because it discharges real quickly, it can't be used to achieve higher range.
As the company has mentioned that the production model will come with a 150 km range, the battery to ultra-cap ratio will have to be tipped towards batteries so as to achieve the claimed range. This will ultimately affect the acceleration and it will be interesting to see how the car fares then.
