Auto Sales June 2022: Tata Motors Records Highest Ever PV Sales

- Tata says 68 per cent of quarterly PV sales from SUVs
- With 45,197 units sold in the PV market, June is carmaker's best month yet
- Tata says Q1 FY 2023 is also its best quarter in the PV segment
Tata Motors continued to see a growth in sales recording a new high in monthly passenger vehicle sales with 45,197 units sold in June 2022. Sales grew 87 per cent year on year in the month with month-on-month sales too up by 4 per cent month on month growth in June 2022 with an additional 1,857 units sold in the month. Coming to the first quarter of the new financial year Tata said it had recorded a notable 102 per cent growth in passenger vehicle sales year on year with numbers also up 6 per cent over the last quarter. With 1,30,125 units retailed in the first quarter, the was also the company’s best performance in a quarter in the passenger vehicle space.

Speaking on the brand’s performance. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “Demand for passenger vehicles continued to stay strong in Q1 FY23 even as the supply side remained moderately impacted due to the lockdown in China. Overcoming the challenges, Tata Motors posted record-breaking monthly sales (June’22) as well as quarterly sales (Q1 FY23). For the month of June’22, sales were highest ever at 45,197 units, registering a growth of 87% versus June’21. Quarterly sales for Q1 FY23, at 130,125 units, was also the highest ever, posting a growth of 102% versus Q1 FY22.”

Tata says it has received a strong customer response to the new Nexon EV Max.

Chandra added that the company’s EV sales of 3,507 units too were its best figures in monthly sales with the company seeing a strong customer response to the recently launched Nexon EV Max. He also revealed that Tata’s SUVs were particularly in demand accounting for about 68 per cent of the companies overall PV sales in the first quarter.
“Electric vehicle sales attained new heights with quarterly sales of 9,283 in Q1 FY23 and highest-ever monthly sales of 3,507 units in June’22. Nexon EV Max launched in May’22, has witnessed strong demand. Going forward, we expect the supply side, including that of critical electronic components to progressively improve. We will continue to keep a close watch on the evolving demand and supply situation and take appropriate actions,” Chandra said.

Commercial vehicles sales were also up year-on-year though only passenger carriers posted a growth over Q4 FY2022
On the commercial vehicle front, Tata Motors posted a year on year growth of 69 per cent year-on-year overall with number up 14 per cent over May 2022. Quarterly figures though painted a different picture. While sales in the April-June window grew 101 per cent year on year, the numbers were down 16 per cent over the fourth quarter of FY2022. Only passenger carriers posted a growth in quarterly numbers with a 57 per cent gain over Q4.
