BMW is likely to introduce its premium motorcycle range first
While BMW dealers have been privately importing the brand's premium bikes in India for years now; next month will mark the brand's official entry to the country offering sales and service support. Prices are also expected to be slightly lower, as a result.
BMW Motorrad made its official announcement about operations in the country at the Auto Expo last year. The automaker was initially expected to commence sales of its bikes by the end of 2016, but confirmed later in the year that it will start operations via independent dealerships only by mid-2017.
The list of BMW bikes arriving in India is likely to include the BMW S1000 RR, S1000 R, R1200, K1600. R Nine T among others. The motorcycles will arrive as Completely Built Units (CBUs), at least initially; while the bike maker could look into locally assembling the range, given the response. However, plans for local assembly is still some years away.

BMW G 310 R at the 2016 Auto Expo
Coming to the most affordable model from BMW Motorcycles, the G 310 R streetfighter was unveiled at the end of 2015 and is yet to arrive in the Indian market. Made in collaboration with TVS Motor Company at the latter's Hosur facility, the made-in-India motorcycle will be sold via BMW Motorrad's dealer network.
The naked offering uses a 313 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine tuned to produce 34 bhp of power and 28 Nm of torque, while paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle will be locking horns with the all-new KTM 390 Duke, Mahindra Mojo, Benelli TNT 300 and the likes in the segment and is also expected to bring in the volumes for the brand.
