Buying A Used Maruti Suzuki SX4? Is It Worth it?

Are you looking for a rugged used sedan, one that can reliably ferry you around for some years without any issues? You may consider a used Maruti Suzuki SX4 which has both petrol and diesel versions available. Yes, the car does not have huge resale value, unlike a Honda City or Hyundai Verna perhaps, but it is still a nice option, provided you get a reliable and well-maintained vehicle at a competitive price point.

The SX4 came in 2007 with a petrol 1.6 litre engine that made 103 BHP and this went up to 104 BHP with the VVT or variable valve timing technology. The engine is peppy enough and the car offers nice ground clearance in comparison to other sedans. There are chunky 16-inch wheels along with a solid suspension system that can tackle poor roads with aplomb. However, interior space, especially at the rear, may feel slightly cramped in comparison to some peers. The top-end variants have decent features including power mirrors, integrated audio unit, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, ABS, airbags, and more.
The diesel variants were launched by the company in 2010 and they got the MultiJet 1.3 litre engine making 89 BHP and 200 Nm. The CNG version also came out in the same year. In fact, what makes the used SX4 so attractive for buyers seeking an upgrade is the pricing. You can find older SX4 models at prices hovering between INR 1-3 lakhs on average. The car is relatively hassle-free if you keep servicing it regularly, while overall maintenance charges are also on the lower side.
Here are some things worth checking before you buy:
- Suspension system and shock absorbers.
- Clutch, especially clutch pedal hardening which may be possible.
- Rattling of plastic components including the dashboard and other components.

Anything between 50,000-60,000 kilometres may be relatively better, without any history of accidents or major mishaps. The SX4 is a car that is easier to maintain and will last for a long time if you stick to regular servicing schedules.
