Exclusive: Simple Energy To Produce 1 Million EVs Annually In Phase 1

- Simple Energy's manufacturing facility will be based in Hosur, Tamil Nadu
- The facility will have production capacity of 1 million units
- The Simple One electric scooter will be launched on August 15, 2021
Bengaluru-based electric vehicle start-up Simple Energy will be setting up its manufacturing facility at Hosur, Tamil Nadu, carandbike has learnt. The company intends to start production at the new facility from later this year, which will be spread across an area of 2,00,000 square feet, and will also have production capacity of 1 million units annually. The company plans to invest Rs. 350 crore over the next two years to increase its footprint across India. The 1 million production capacity will be in the first phase and the company will extend production capacity in the coming years. As many as 1,000 jobs will also be created as soon as the facility starts operations.

Speaking on this development, Suhas Rajkumar, Founder, and CEO of Simple Energy said, "This is a huge milestone for Simple Energy. Although we aim to lead electric mobility in the country, we will now be able to cater to a larger audience faster than ever. We look forward to the launch on August 15 to embark on this remarkable initiative."

The first prototype, called Mark 1, had a 200 km range
The company's first electric scooter, to be called the Simple One, will be launched on August 15, 2021. The Simple One will be a high-speed electric scooter and will compete with the Ather 450X. Interestingly, Ola Electric will also launch its first electric scooter on August 15, 2021. The Simple One will be launched simultaneously in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, followed by other cities in the coming months. The Simple One electric scooter is expected to be priced at between Rs. 1,10,000 to Rs. 1,20,000.

Simple Energy's flagship electric scooter will compete with the Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube, as well as Ola Electric's first electric scooter
The Simple One electric scooter will have a 4.8 kWh lithium-ion battery offering a claimed range of 240 km in Eco mode, one of the highest in the Indian electric two-wheeler space. Maximum speed will be around 100 kmph, with acceleration of 0 to 50 kmph in just 3.6 seconds. More details on the features and technology will be announced at the time of the launch.
