Most Powerful AMG Now In India: Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Priced From Rs. 5.50 Crore Onwards

- AMG GT Black Series powered by an upgraded 720 bhp 4.0-litre V8
- Mercedes claims a top speed of 325 kmph and a sub 9 sec 200kmph time
- Only two models being imported with this unit delivered to Boopesh Reddy
Revealed in 2020, the AMG GT Black Series essentially marked the last hurrah of the company's two-door high-performance coupe. Now, almost 2 years later the model has arrived in India and in very limited numbers. Mercedes-AMG has said that it will be importing and delivering just 2 GT Black Series models in India with each having a base price of Rs 5.50 crore (ex-showroom) and both having already been spoken for. The company today announced the delivery of the first of the two units with the second to arrive in July. The keys to the first unit were handed over by Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India to prominent businessman and enthusiast Boopesh Reddy.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, “We are thrilled to deliver the first-ever AMG GT Black Series in India, an automotive rarity in the world of performance motoring and the closest proximity to motor racing. The delivery of the AMG GT Black Series strongly emphasizes our commitment towards introducing the most desirable and exclusive products from our global portfolio for performance purists in India.”

Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes India with Boopesh Reddy, owner of the Black Series
“There was an overwhelming response from the AMG customers for the AMG GT Black Series super car since its global debut, and we will deliver two units of this exclusive masterpiece in India based on our allocations. The second unit of the Black Series will be delivered to our customer next month.” Added Schwenk.
Essentially the road-going version of AMG GT GT3 race car, the Black Series gets a number of cosmetic upgrades to enhance vehicle aerodynamics along with a re-worked version of AMG's V8 engine under the bonnet. The biggest upgrade compared to other AMG GTs is the switch to a flat crankshaft along with a revised cylinder firing order to boost throttle response and revv more cleanly at higher rpms and deliver more power. Other upgrades to the unit include larger turbos, new camshafts, new exhaust and a larger intercooler as well. All this results in an engine that produces 720 bhp between 6700-6900rpm and 800 Nm of torque from 2000-6000rpm. In terms of performance, the Black Series hits 100kph from a standing start in as little as 3.2 seconds and carries on to hit 200kph in sub 9 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that has also been beefed up to handle the additional torque and offer improved shift times.

The AMG GT Black Series is based on the company's GT3 race car and gets a major overhaul both under the skin and cosmetically.
Keeping to the changes under the skin, the Black Series uses a coil-over suspension set-up with adaptive damping and manual adjustment for wheel camber and the anti-roll bars. The brakes too are upgraded to AMG ceramic compound brakes as standard while the car comes with a selectable 9-step traction control system.
Being based on the company's GT3 race car, the Black Series gets a number of aero enhancements such as a new front bumper with a larger apron and manually adjustable splitter, a manually adjustable rear wing, a new carbonfibre bonnet with vents to dissipate heat from the engine bay and even a carbon fibre roof. The model being delivered was finished in High-Tech Silver Metallic and AMG magma beam and sat on 10-spoke black-finished forged alloy wheels – 19 inches in the front and 20 at the back.
