Ford's India Exit- Should You Buy A Used Ford Car Now?

Ford India delivered a shocker of an announcement on 9th September, 2021, confirming the winding up of operations in the country. This has naturally led to anxieties for not just Ford owners in India, but used car buyers as well. Coming to the potential consequences of this unfortunate market exit, should you buy a used Ford car in these changed circumstances?

The Indian used car landscape is vast and unending, with numerous units available from Ford throughout major cities and towns. There are several popular models from Ford in the used car segment as well. Some of the biggest draws include Ford Endeavour, Ford EcoSport, Ford Figo, Ford Fiesta, and many others. While many of these models are quite attractive and feature packed, buyers may be in two minds after news of Ford's official departure from India. So what should you do in this regard?
Used car buyers usually worry about two major things, namely the availability of car components and spare parts and also regular service/repairs for their vehicles. This is actually a major point of concern for those who purchase new cars as well, along with first-time owners. However, those buying used Ford cars need not worry unnecessarily. This is because the company has promised that it will keep offering spare parts and after-sales service to all its customers.
Ford has a vast network of dealerships throughout the country, and these outlets will keep offering spare parts support along with service/repair facilities. At the same time, Ford has clearly stated that it will maintain its depots of spare parts in Delhi, Sanand, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai. Those planning to buy used Ford cars can breathe easy- the company will be backing them up with everything they need, at least from this perspective.

Pricing is another key parameter that clearly determines purchase decisions of customers. With Ford confirming its official exodus from the Indian market, it is a fact that most used Ford cars have witnessed erosion in their price points. This is quite similar to the period when General Motors (GM) also went down the same route and exited India. As a result, demand for used Ford cars has already increased owing to attractive prices of reliable, high-performing and feature-packed models from the brand. If you were eyeing that Fiesta, Figo, Aspire, Endeavour, or EcoSport, then you can go ahead with your purchase. Just make sure that the used Ford vehicle is in good condition. That is all you need to worry about. With favourable pricing for Ford models, it is a used car buyer's market at the moment. You may as well cash in if you can!
