Fuel Prices Hiked Again; Petrol Nears Rs. 100/Litre Mark In Bengaluru


- Petrol and diesel prices have touched new all-time highs across India

After a brief one-day pause, the state-run oil retailers on Wednesday once again revised fuel prices throughout the country. Domestic rates of petrol and diesel have gone up to 25 paise a litre and up to 13 paise a litre, respectively. This is the 25th hike in fuel rates since May 4, 2021, when oil marketing companies ended a hiatus in rate revision post assembly elections. With the latest revision, two auto fuels now retail Rs. 96.66 per litre and Rs. 87.41 per litre in the national capital, Delhi. In Bengaluru, petrol is inching towards Rs. 100 per litre mark, currently priced at Rs. 99.89 a litre while diesel costs Rs. 92.66 a litre.

Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

In the financial capital, petrol and diesel prices have touched new all-time highs. Buyers in Mumbai will have to pay Rs. 102.82 a litre for petrol and Rs. 94.84 a litre for diesel. Other metro cities too witnessed a similar hike in fuel rates. In Chennai, the two auto fuels are priced at Rs. 97.91 per litre and Rs. 92.04 per litre for petrol and diesel, respectively. The customers in Kolkata will now have to pay Rs. 96.58 per litre for petrol and Rs. 90.25 for one-litre diesel. On the other hand, in Hyderabad, petrol and diesel are now priced at Rs. 100.46 per litre and Rs. 95.28 per litre, respectively.
In Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar, petrol stood at Rs. 107.79 per litre while diesel is already above Rs. 100 per litre, retailing at Rs. 100.51 a litre. Petrol in Bhopal has jumped to Rs. 104.85 a litre, while diesel costs Rs. 96.05 a litre. In Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, the fuel rates stood at Rs. 107.43 per litre and Rs. 98.43 per litre, respectively. Customers in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra will have to pay Rs. 105.16 a litre and Rs. 95.63 a litre for petrol and diesel, respectively. Do note, Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Fuel prices differ from state to state, which depends on the value-added tax (VAT) levied by the state government.

Fuel rates differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as value-added tax (VAT). Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Indian Oil Corporation are the country's three major oil marketing firms and they revise fuel rates on daily basis. They also make necessary changes to align the petroleum prices with the global benchmark and dollar-rupee exchange rate.
