Fuel Prices Touch New Highs; Petrol Breaches Rs. 110/Litre Mark In Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar

After a pause of one day, the state-owned fuel retailers on Tuesday again hiked fuel prices across India. As per data available on oil retailer's website, petrol became costlier by up to 37 paise a litre, while diesel soared by up to 30 paise a litre. With the latest price revision, customers in Delhi will now have to pay Rs. 98.81 a litre for petrol and Rs. 89.13 per litre for one litre of diesel. Petrol prices are already above Rs. 100/litre mark in certain parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha, Manipur, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. In Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar, petrol has breached Rs. 100-mark currently retails at Rs. 110.04 a litre while diesel soared to Rs. 102.42 per litre.

In the financial capital Mumbai, petrol currently retails at Rs. 104.90 per litre.

In Mumbai, petrol prices inched towards Rs. 105-mark, which jumped from Rs. 104.56 a litre to Rs. 104.90 a litre. Diesel rates increased to Rs. 96.72 per litre, after a hike of 30 paise. In Thane district, petrol has touched Rs. 105.02 a litre while diesel jumped to Rs. 96.84 a litre. After Patna, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore, Coimbatore joined the list of cities where petrol rates are above Rs. 100 a litre. Customers in Coimbatore will have to pay Rs. 100.30 a litre for petrol, while costs Rs. 94.23 a litre.
Petrol price in Chennai neared Rs. 100-mark, currently standing at Rs. 99.80 a litre while diesel retails at Rs. 93.72 a litre. In Hyderabad, petrol currently retails at Rs. 102.69 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs. 97.20 per litre. In Kolkata, petrol prices reached Rs. 98.64 per litre, while diesel retails at Rs. 92.03 per litre. Fuel rates in Bengaluru now stand at Rs. 102.11 and Rs. 94.54, respectively.

Fuel prices differ from state to state, which depends on the value-added tax (VAT) levied by the state government.
In Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, petrol has touched Rs. 109.29 a litre while diesel is inching towards Rs. 100-mark, standing at Rs. 99.98 a litre. Fuel rates in Anuppur have soared to 109.65 a litre and Rs. 100.32 a litre, respectively. Customers in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra will have to pay Rs. 107.22 a litre and Rs. 97.47 a litre for petrol and diesel, respectively.
Fuel prices vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation are the country's three major oil marketing firms and they revise fuel rates on daily basis. They also make necessary changes to align the petroleum prices with the global benchmark and dollar-rupee exchange rate.
