Honda City's Production to be Halted for Sometime

Here's the latest from the house of Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL). The company has revealed that it will halt the production of Honda City during the month of August, 2014. Furthermore, the entire production of the all-new Honda City will be shifted to the company's Tapukara plant in Alwar, Rajasthan. Honda said that this was being done in order to meet the rising demand of its models. Didn't expect to receive over 10,000 bookings for the Honda Mobilio within 15 days of its launch, did they? Anyway, the Honda City's production will resume in the first week of September, 2014 after the month-long break.

HCIL has commenced the production of the Honda Mobilio MPV at its Greater Noida plant, and consequently decided to shift the Honda City's production to the Tapukara to cater to the strong demand for all the models. Its Tapukara plant has an installed capacity of 1,20,000 units /annum and is currently running on single shift. The company currently produces the Honda Amaze at the plant since February, 2014 when the assembly operations began in this plant.
Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India, said, "The shift of City production to Tapukara will ensure better availability and timely deliveries of Honda City and the newly launched Mobilio. We have received an overwhelming response to both the City and the Mobilio, and it is necessary to maximise production at both the plants for the benefit of the customer."
With more than 50 per cent market share in its segment, the 4th generation Honda City leads its class for now. The cumulatively sales of Honda City for January - July 2014 period stood at 53,605 units.
