Hyundai Celebrates 20th Anniversary in India

- Hyundai celebrates 20 years of its operations in India
- Hyundai promises to launch two new vehicles every year
- Hyundai envisions itself as the market leader in the next few years
Time surely flies fast when things are going good. It has been exactly 20 years since Hyundai stepped into India and laid the foundation stone for its plant. The Korean manufacturer started operations in September, 1998 when the Chennai plant was ready and started off proceedings with the manufacturing of the 'Tallboy' Hyundai Santro. At that time, it was the only car in the segment to have a Multi-Port Fuel Injection (MPFI) engine compared to the carburettor based engines of those times. The Chennai plant was Hyundai's first plant to be commissioned outside of South Korea.
(Hyundai celebrates 20 years in India)On the occasion, Young Key Koo, MD, Hyundai Motor India Limited said, "this is a very important milestone for us. 20 years ago we only had a dream of transforming the Indian auto industry by introducing contemporary products and today that dream has come true. We were also the first proponents of "Make in India" and showcasing India's manufacturing prowess to the world. That vision is validated with HMIL and India remaining at the heart of HMC's global operations and a key hub for exports. We have received tremendous support from the Indian customer and I am confident that this support and co-operation continues, going forward." He also said that Hyundai's vision is that of becoming the market leader in India and become the most beloved and trusted automotive brand in the country. Hyundai's current manufacturing facility gets upgraded and automated periodically. Currently, the investments stand at $3.1 billion with vendor investment at $1.5 billion.
Hyundai will be celebrating throughout the year and will also be launching a new logo of the company to commemorate its 20 years of operations in India. It will also organise a carnival for its employees at the factory premises. We wish Hyundai the very best for the future.
