Hyundai Introduces The World's First Sunroof Airbag System

Cars are getting safer by the day and the advancements in technology are truly astounding. Safety is at the forefront of it all and we can' t deny that cars are become a mode of transportation that protects its occupants. When we talk about safety in cars though, the first name that pops into your head is Volvo and naturally so, but this time it's Hyundai that's making advances in the field of passenger safety. We are saying this because, Hyundai has become the first company in the world to introduce a panoramic sunroof airbag.

The sunroof airbag can deploy in 0.08 seconds
The goal of this airbag is to protect the passengers from being thrown out of the vehicle in case of a serious accident. Considering that sunroofs are quite the rage in today's day and with more cars available with this feature, it was important to add this safety feature in the car. The airbag is similar to the curtain airbag that we see on most cars and Hyundai explains that the panoramic sunroof airbag will deploy if the sensor detects the turning angle of the vehicle is changed because of a rollover. The sunroof airbag can deploy in 0.08 seconds and provide protection to the occupants from serious neck and head injuries in case of a roll-over.
During its development, engineers identified that it was important to secure enough space for stable airbag deployment when making the sunroof. The airbag must also be deployed safely in a way that fits the situation, such as when the sunroof screen is open or closed in an accident. Therefore, if the car is overturned when the sunroof is closed, the airbag is deployed across between the sunroof glass and the sun shield.
