- The Ducati 1299 Superleggera costs Rs. 1.12 crore (Ex-showroom, Delhi)
- The superquadro L-twin engine makes 212 bhp and 146 Nm
- Only 500 units were manufactured and all have been sold
For the uninitiated, the Ducati 1299 Superleggera is the absolute pride of the company and is the flagship model to be coming from Borgo Panigale. Needless to say, Ducati wanted to add a touch of exclusivity and have limited the run of production to just 500 units worldwide, all of which have been sold out. Also, it is priced at Rs. 1.12 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Ducati India recently delivered a 1299 Superleggera to Vikram Oberoi, MD and CEO, EIH Ltd (Oberoi and Trident Hotels Group). As of now he is the only person in India to own a 1299 Superleggera. Along with his latest acquisition, He also owns a Ducati 1299 Panigale, Ducati 1098 and a Ducati 916 and is an avid motorcycle enthusiast.
(Ducati India delivered a 1299 Superleggera to Vikram Oberoi)The Ducati 1299 Superleggera gets a Superquadro L-twin engine which makes a massive 212 bhp at 11,000 rpm and 146 Nm at 9,000 rpm. It is the first production motorcycle to get carbon-fibre bits such as the monocoque, single-sided swingarm, rear sub-frame, fairing and wheels as well. According to Ducati, it is the most advanced motorcycle that it has ever made.
Ravi Avalur, Managing Director of Ducati India Pvt. Ltd. said: "The 1299 Superleggera is one of the most exclusive motorcycles in the world, with only 500 units produced. Redefining the definition of the term "superbike", it offers unmatched technology in a limited edition targeting the true connoisseur. We are very proud to deliver the only 1299 Superleggera in India to Vikram."
(The Ducati 1299 Superleggera has a mind-boggling power-to-weight ratio of 1,430 bhp/tonne)With a dry weight of barely 156 kg and a power output of 212 bhp, the 1299 Superleggera has an insane power-to-weight ratio of 1,430 bhp/tonne (dry weight). The bike packs a host of electronics to keep all that power under check. The electronics include Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Slide Control, and Engine Brake Control as well. The 1299 Superleggera is the first bike to get Ducati Power Launch too.
There is a Bosch six-axis Inertial Measurement unit (IMU) in the throw as well. The particular model that was delivered to Vikram Oberoi also gets a complete race kit, which includes a Titanium Akrapovic exhaust, racing screen, mirror replacement plugs, plate holder removal kits and so on.
