Land Rover Updates Range Rover Sport For 2019 With PHEV Powertrain

Land Rover today announced the technical specifications of the 2019 Range Rover Sport, and the good news is that it finally gets the plug-in hybrid version, making it the first product from the British carmaker. The brand's first PHEV, badged P400e, and offers an electric-only range of 51km, along with updates like a new 'Wade Sensing' feature and new 'Advanced Driver Assistance System' functionality. Moreover, the 2019 Range Rover Sport also gets visual updates on the exterior as well as the interior with leather upholstery and 14-way adjustable front seats.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, Land Rover said, "The Range Rover Sport is a unique statement of performance with an assertive and powerful design. Visually, the 2019 Range Rover Sport gets the light and slim line grille up front, which also blends smoothly into the single surface while the front bumper is redesigned to give a ground hugging look. The 2019 Range Rover Sport also gets the premium LED automatic headlights with LED signature DRLs and optional auto high beam assist. Moreover, each headlight package features 24 LEDs per vehicle offering superior illumination of the road ahead.

Land Rover is also offering the black exterior pack for the supercharged Dynamic model that gets gloss black exterior accents, including the grille mesh and surround. The front fender vents are a visual delight while the floating roof is carried forward from the previous Range Rover, creating a lean profile. At the back, you get an aggressive slotted spoiler profile that complements the vehicle's clean design. Land Rover has specced the 2019 Range Rover Sport with an option of either 21-inch or 22-inch alloy wheels and is available with a silver, diamond-turned or black finish.

On the inside, the 2019 Range Rover Sport maintains the features from the rest of the models, however, what's new are the grained leather upholstery which is available with 14-way adjustable front seats. Moreover, you also get the optional perforated Windsor leather that comes with 16-way memory front seats with the option of winged headrests. The Semi-Aniline Leather comes standard on the 380 bhp HSE Dynamic and Autobiography models. Land Rover also offers two 10-inch touchscreens in the centerpiece of the minimalist cabin of the Range Rover Sport within the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. Moving on, the 2019 Range Rover Sport also comes with advanced driver assistance features that include core elements such as Lane Departure Warning and Emergency Braking, cruise control and speed limiter, all fitted as standard. Moreover, the company is also offering the Drive Pack features as an option that includes Blind Spot Monitor, Adaptive Speed Limiter, Driver Condition Monitor and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Talking about the engine, the 2019 Range Rover Sport is the first JLR product to feature a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. The P400e is capable of driving up to 51km with zero tailpipe emissions when driven in all-electric model. The P400e combines 296 bhp four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a 141 bhp electric motor. This is powered by a 13.1kWh lithium-ion battery giving a total available power output of 398 bhp from the permanent four-wheel drive (4WD) system. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Apart from the PHEV powertrain, the 2019 Range Rover Sport will also get a line-up of V6 and V8 powertrains. A 3.0L Turbocharged V6 diesel is available exclusively in SE and HSE derivatives offering 254 bhp and 600 NM of torque, while two 3.0L Supercharged V6 petrol engines offer outputs of 340 bhp and 380 bhp and a top speed of 209kmph.
