- Over 3 lakh units of the car have been sold in India
Global NCAP has crash tested the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which is India's largest selling SUV. The Vitara Brezza was awarded four stars in the latest round crash tests which is good news for current and future customers of the subcompact SUV. Global NCAP crash tested the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza sub 4-metre SUV at 64 kmph in a front offset test in an ADAC crash facility in Germany. The Vitara Brezza has been designed and developed in India and is available only in the diesel variant with manual and automatic transmission options. The Vitara Brezza scored 4 stars on front adult occupant safety and scored 2 stars on rear child occupant safety. The Global NCAP also rated the body structure of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to be stable.

The Brezza's body shell takes most of the brunt of the damage to its front end while the likes of the A-pillar remain completely unaffected. This means that there is very little intrusion into the passenger cell itself. The report also states that the body shell is capable of taking more damage and still sustaining its structural rigidity. The fact that the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza comes with ABS, two airbags and ISOFIX as standard tremendously helped the Vitara Brezza get a high score.

Speaking exclusively to NDTV carandbike, David Ward, Secretary General, Global NCAP said, "We are extremely impressed and really delighted with the performance of the Brezza. It is a big step forward for Maruti Suzuki. It is a very good 4 Star rated car and it has been engineered right here in India, which is even more impressive.

It is really a home grown Suzuki. It shows what the company is capable of and it makes me very confident that we are very close to the first 5 Star car in India. So congratulations to Maruti Suzuki for producing such a fine car as it comes hot on the heels of the Tata Nexon which did really well too.

(The Vitara Brezza Bagged 4-Star Rating In Adult Occupant Safety And 2-Star Rating In Child Occupant Safety)
Global NCAP also states that the head protection for both driver and passenger is good. The passenger also gets good chest and knee ratings, the driver gets marginal knee and chest ratings. At the rear, the ISOFIX system for child seats worked well for a larger test dummy simulating a 3 year old child but not so well for one that simulated an 18 month old child. Other cars in India that have received a Global NCAP 4 star rating, apart from the Nexon that we mentioned earlier, include the Toyota Etios, the Tata Zest and the Volkswagen Polo.

The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT automatic. The fuel economy figures on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza are rated at 24.29 kmpl.
