Mercedes-AMG GT 63 E-Performance PHEV Unveiled

- The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 coupe E-Performanc will debut at IAA Munich.
- The powertrain will churn out around 805 bhp and 1,001 Nm of peak torque.
- It will be one of the fastest four-door performance coupes on sale.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 E-Performance has been unveiled in global markets and essentially, it's the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Four-door coupe. It is an evolution over the SLS Electric Drive launched back in 2012, but this time around will be reasonably priced to attract more buyers. The plug-in-hybrid four-door GT coupe will take on rivals like the Porsche Panamera Turbo SE Hybrid and it gets a punchy V8 hybrid motor under its hood with enough power on tap to make it one of the fastest four-door models on sale.

This is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG factory product ever.
It's a combination of a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo petrol motor and a 6.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The powertrain belts out a combined power output of 820 bhp and 1,400 Nm of peak torque. And yes! This is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG factory product ever. Now adding those extra grunts is all the way more important for an optimum power-to-weight ratio. The battery itself tips the scales at 89 kg and so adds 201 bhp alone. So here the purpose of the battery pack is more power instead of range, the GT 63 E-Performance delivers just 12 km of electric drive range.

Having said that, at 2.9 seconds for triple-digits, it is not only one of the fastest four-door cars, but also one of the fastest production models. For your perspective, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Coupe does 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.1 seconds. Then, 0-200 kmph in the E-Performance comes in less than 10 seconds and it tops out at 315 kmph. Over the standard drive modes on the GT 63 range- Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Race, and Slippery - theirs is now the new Electric drive mode allowing the S E Performance to cruise on pure battery power at speeds of up to 130 kmph And then, there's a four-stage regenerative braking system that ranges from Level 0 (disengaged) to Level 3 (one-pedal driving), with a track-only regenerative mode designed for performance.

At 2.9 seconds for triple-digits, it is not only one of the fastest four-door cars, but also one of the fastest production models.
As offered on all other AMG GT four-Door models, the GT 63 S E Performance gets AMG Ride Control plus, which includes an adaptive suspension with an air damping system. The suspension settings can be adjusted individually from the drive modes, or automatically depending on the mode and Mercedes says that engineers have further enhanced the spread between sportiness and comfort on this model.

Even on the inside it remains unchanged sporting the same MBUX infotainment setup from all other GT models.
Now when it comes to looks, it pretty much remains the same to the standard GT 63, save for the reworked front bumper that now borrows cues from the GT coupe, the charging port - located on the rear bumper - blends into the sheet metal just below the taillights, and there are new 20- and 21-inch wheel options. Even on the inside it remains unchanged sporting the same MBUX infotainment setup from all other GT models and a new two-spoke steering wheel with haptic feedback buttons.
