Mercedes-Benz G63 6x6 To Go Out of Production?

When the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 came about in 2013, it instantly became the talk of the town. Some forums even went to the extent of saying that Germans finally got a sense of humour! I'm not sure about that, but it did look like nothing else on the road.
However, what's that they say about all good things coming to an end, and what not? According to an article by GT Spirit, Mercedes-Benz is pulling the plug on the G63 AMG 6x6, but not before selling over 100 units of the - automotive cliche never fit a car better - beast, which is "significantly more than the company originally anticipated."
This might be the most short-lived product by Mercedes-Benz in the modern times. The double-cab G63 6x6 started out as an even more extreme version of the G320 CDI 6x6, which was engineered for the Australian army, and features 6 driven wheels, five differential locks and tyre control system for the 37-inch wheels it rides on.

While the military version of the 6x6 gets its power from a 3-litre diesel V6, the AMG 6x6 gets a twin-turbocharged 5.5 litre V8 that roars out 536bhp and 760Nm - much needed numbers, keeping in mind this thing weighs in excess of 3.7 tonnes!
It's sad to see this behemoth of an off-roader go away, but Mercedes-Benz recently revealed its G500 4x4, which is essentially a smaller version of the G63 6x6 with much less dramatic 4-wheel architecture. Still, looks good!
