Mercedes-Benz already retails a petrol variant of the S-Class, that is the S500 with the V8 petrol engine. So why the need of a smaller S400 you ask? The S400 will target those customers who are looking for luxury and better running costs too. So, yes, they want to look all flamboyant and classy but they also want to tell the world that they're sensible.
