Mercedes-Benz is all set to bring in another sedan to India in the form of the new S400, expanding its range of luxury cars further, . A new variant of the highly successful S-Class four-door sedan, the S400 will be launched in India later today and as one can expect, will be loaded with all the creature comforts you can can count, and then some.
Mercedes-Benz already retails a petrol variant of the S-Class, that is the S500 with the V8 petrol engine. So why the need of a smaller S400 you ask? The S400 will target those customers who are looking for luxury and better running costs too. So, yes, they want to look all flamboyant and classy but they also want to tell the world that they're sensible.
Under the hood, the Mercedes S400 will come equipped with a 3.0-litre, V6 petrol engine that produces 324bhp of power and a massive 480Nm of peak torque. Yes, we know what you're wondering, is the hybrid coming too? Well no, Mercedes-Benz sells the cars in European markets but has no plans to bring it to India any time soon.
So what should you expect from the S400? It gets the same amount of luxury that you've seen on the other trims and this includes stuff like air-suspension, unmatched quality in the cabin, great on space and of course oodles of comfort. There aren't any exterior changes either save for the badging that gives away the variant easily.
Power on the new Mercedes S400 is sent to the rear wheels and the luxury sedan will be positioned between the S350d and the S500. Considering its positioning, we can expect the price to hit the Rs. 1.2 crore mark (ex-showroom), keeping it very much in the arms of the affluent. The company had launched 15 cars in 2015 and plans to launch 12 this year. Having kicked off its series of launches with the GLE 450 AMG in January, the Mercedes S400 is part of that plan.
