MINI John Cooper Works Convertible Showcased at New York Auto Show

Coming to the car's design and looks, the new MINI John Cooper Works Convertible is almost identical to the standard hatchback. Well, of course with the addition of the retractable soft-top roof and all the goodies from John Cooper Works. The front end of the car comes with those signature racing strips along with the new honey-comb pattern grille, aggressive bumper housing two large air intakes and a three-piece air dam. Towards the side profile you'll see those plastic under body cladding on the over hangs, small side skirt, sporty 17-inch wheels and those stylish oval ORVMs.
The rear profile of the car features those classic tail lamps and a large aggressive rear bumper with four air outlets and the signature dual nozzle sports exhaust system. Moreover the opening or closing the electrically-operated soft-top roof is claimed to take 18 seconds and it can be done at speeds of up to 30 km/h.
Powering this mini beast is the trusted 2.0-liter four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that is capable of churning out 228bhp and develops 320Nm of peak torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels through either the standard six-speed manual or the optional six-speed automatic gearbox. With the manual, the car can do a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 6.4 seconds which is a full two seconds less than its predecessor. Upgrade to the automatic and the task is completed in 6.3 seconds, representing a decrease of half a second compared to the old one.
Incidentally, MINI launched the standard Cooper S Convertible earlier this month in India which indicates that the John Cooper Works Convertible will soon find its way to the Indian shores as well.
