Highlights

  • The Elantra was launched in India in late August
  • In the first month, over 60% bookings came for the petrol variant
  • Waiting period for the Elantra is now 4-5 months

The sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra, which recently went on sale in India, has recorded over 1500 bookings since its launch in August 2016. It's just under three months that the car has gone on sale in India and clearly it seems to have generated a lot of interest.

The Elantra has been a part of the South Korean's carmaker's line-up since 1990, but it was the third generation model that came to India in 2004. While the initial response was quite positive, the decreasing popularity of mid-size sedans in India affected the sales of the Elantra as well. But, times have changed now, and there is a growing demand for premium mid-size sedans in the country, which the company took advantage of to launch the new-generation model.

New Hyundai Elantra
The Car Comes With a Host of New Features

Mr. Y K Koo, MD & CEO Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “The recently launched All New Elantra, received an overwhelming response with 1,509 bookings resulting in 4-5 months waiting period, we thank our customers for showing confidence in Brand Hyundai"

The long waiting period comes as a surprise as we've told you earlier that the company had postponed the launch of the Tucson to help in dealing with the booking numbers garnered by the Elantra.

We've already driven it and told you all about it. The new-gen Hyundai Elantra is based on the carmaker's latest design language and comes with a host of cosmetic and smart features. The Hyundai Elantra receives a number of new upgrades such as refreshed styling and modernised features. Its list of provisions include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth, AUX-In and USB connectivity.

Under the hood, the new Hyundai Elantra comes with 2 engine options: the new 147bhp 2.0-litre MPI four-cylinder petrol and the 126bhp 1.6-litre diesel, which has been carried over from the Creta. There are a set of two gearboxes on offer - a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
