Next Generation Volvo S60 To Be Revealed By Mid-2018

- The new generation Volvo S60 will be revealed around May-June this year
- The new Volvo S60 is based on the automaker's SPA modular platform
- Volvo is likely to bring the new gen S60 to India sometime in 2019
Volvo unveiled the V60 Estate just last week and while that model may little little relevance to the Indian market, it is the V60's sedan derivative that we are eagerly waiting for. The third generation Volvo S60 is due for later this year and the Swedish automaker has now confirmed that the all-new sedan will be revealed by mid-2018. The new generation S60 will be revealed at the company's newly constructed facility in South Carolina, US, which is also where the model will be produced. The 2019 Volvo S60 will enter production towards the end of this year at the plant.

The reveal then is not too far away and we also know what to expect on the new generation Volvo S60. The sedan, as is the case with other Volvo offerings, will be sharing its design credentials with the new V60 including the familiar bold grille and the Thor's Hammer inspired LED DRLs. In all likelihood, the new generation S60 will look like the baby S90 sedan with the C-shaped taillights, and we have absolutely no problems with that. Volvo's new age design language has been a highly appreciated one, and will certainly work on the new S60 as well.

Inside, expect to see the highly appreciated cabin take form with the massive tablet-like infotainment screen, soft touch materials and an upmarket design overall, taking shape. Legroom and shoulder room, are also expected to see improvements, especially at the rear.
The 2019 Volvo S60 sedan will be based on the company's SPA modular platform that underpins all the new generation vehicles from the car maker. Engine options are most likely to be the same as the V60 and will include the T5 and T6 2.0-litre petrol and the D3 and D4 2.0-litre diesel. A T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid with a petrol-electric system should also join the line-up. Also expect to see more variants of the S60 join in the future, including a Cross Country avatar.

(The new Volvo V60 will be sharing several components with the upcoming S60)
The compact luxury sedan segment is a highly lucrative one and is largely ruled by the German trio. Like it has been for the current model, the S60 will lock horns against the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4. However, it will now also compete with the Jaguar XE, Lexus ES and a host of other models internationally.
The new generation Volvo S60 is expected to hit international markets by late 2018. Meanwhile, expect Volvo Auto India to bring the new model to India by early 2019. The third generation S60 is likely to be assembled in the country at the automaker's Bangalore facility, which will help keep the prices competitive. Volvo currently assembles the XC90 SUV in the country.
