Online Bookings Soar For Mahindra; Big Demand For Scorpio-N In Urban Markets

- The Scorpio-N was launched in India in July 2022
- The SUV has received 1 lakh bookings in 30 minutes

Mahindra & Mahindra has seen a massive surge in online bookings especially with the new Scorpio-N SUV. Speaking during the financial results of Q1. FY 2023, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Automotive and Farm, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “We have witnessed an unprecedented demand for the Scorpio-N and we have received a lot of bookings online. Just to compare, 5 per cent of the bookings received online were for Thar, the XUV700 pushed that barrier to 13 per cent and now we stand at 26 per cent with the Scorpio-N. It clearly shows an increase in the digital penetration and this trend will only go up.”
Demand for the Scorpio-N is higher in the urban markets
The demand for the Scorpio-N then has been robust, but with the new generation, there is a change of trend. It’s in the urban markets that the demand for the Scorpio-N has gone up and the number of people booking the new-gen Scorpio is 77 per cent. The rural markets, however, still showcase a strong demand for the older generation of the car with 55 per cent of the demand coming for it from those markets.
As the car reaches more markets in the country, we are likely to see a tilt in demand, but for now, this is where we stand. Given the strong demand for the Scorpio-N, Mahindra plans to ramp up production of the SUV and expect it to produce 6000 units a month. The company has plans to deliver 20,000 units to its customers this year.
