- The 2022 KTM RC 200 is lighter & has worked on its shortcomings
- The KTM RC 200 gets friendlier ergonomics and improved foam padding
- The 2022 KTM RC 200 is currently priced at Rs. 2.09 lakh (ex-showroom)
The second-generation KTM RC 200 was recently launched in India and the model has seen plenty of upgrades that make it a better offering than before. The full-faired offering gets a new chassis, revised ergonomics, a new instrument console as well as a complete redesign of the fairing in a bid to make it more aerodynamic. The engine and transmission stay the same but the changes are aplenty to help you extract more performance from the offering. So, what makes the KTM RC 200 special and should you buy one? We break down the pros and cons to help you decide better.

The new front design is dramatically different but likeable in person on the 2022 KTM RC 200
Pros
- The new-generation KTM RC 200 gets a new subframe that allows for better flexibility to the chassis. It also makes for a lighter frame along with the new and lighter five-spoke alloy wheels. As a result, the dry weight on the new RC 200 drops by 3.3 kg over the predecessor.
- Apart from the new chassis, KTM has also added an all-new fairing to the new RC 200. The new bodywork is heavily inspired by the MotoGP RC16 machine and has been designed for improved aerodynamics. The windscreen is wider and the rider can tuck away easily, while the new side fairing has been designed to deflect the heat from the engine away from the rider's legs.
- Compared to the predecessor, the new KTM RC 200 also gets a larger radiator with a curved surface to allow more air so it can manage heat issues better than before. It's also a more comfortable motorcycle than before with the taller handlebar and new foam padding.
- KTM also worked upon an important shortcoming of the RC 200 with the latest generation. The fuel tank capacity has been increased from 9.5 litres on the predecessor to 13.7 litres. That's a nearly 4-litre upgrade and makes for fewer fuel stops.
- KTM has not changed the engine and transmission on the RC 200 over the older model. And that's great because the 199.6 cc single-cylinder motor was always great on power and torque figures. However, you do get a 40 per cent larger airbox that feeds more air to the engine that makes for a better torque delivery.

The bulk of changes help extract more performance and ride-ability from the same engine and gearbox combination
Cons
- Even though the ergonomics make it an easier bike to ride for many, the RC 200 still remains an extremely dedicated motorcycle and that may be a drawback for some.
- Despite the larger front brake added to the 2022 KTM RC 200, the feedback at the lever still leaves you wanting for more and the set-up isn't the most confidence-inspiring.
- KTM will increase prices on the RC 200 in a few weeks and will rob the value quotient that it currently offers by a small margin.
- The KTM RC 200 remains a great option if you are looking to ride the bike to its limits on the track. However, the power output could soon get boring if you want to explore your abilities further. The RC 390 then makes for a better buy to explore your personal limits.
- KTM misses out on Bluetooth connectivity that would've been a great addition to the RC 200.
