Popular Pickup Trucks in India

Pickup trucks are light duty trucks with an enclosed cabin, open cargo area with low walls and a tailgate. They are smaller than trucks, but larger than the light commercial vehicles (LCV) like Tata Ace and Force Trump that we see on Indian roads everyday. They also come in varying cabin sizes and are most popular in USA, where it is often used as a passenger car, with Ford being the most purchased brand of pickup. On the other hand, despite having many brands of LCV, the concept of pickup trucks for dual purposes of passenger and utility is not very popular in India. Also, there are hardly any trucks that are allowed by RTOs to be registered as private vehicles, which is another discouragement for many. However, the rules vary in each RTO. So there just maybe a pickup truck for your use in this list.

Isuzu D-max V-cross:
The Isuzu D-max V-cross is the only pick up truck in India which can be registered as a private vehicle. The massive pick-up truck is powered by a 1.9L Direct Diesel Injection engine which produces 163BHP of power and 360Nm of torque. The truck is based on a sturdy ladder-frame body construction and offers a 4 Wheel Drive system. The base Hi-Lander model comes with a 6 Speed Manual transmission with rear wheel drive. The top end V-Cross model comes with a 6 Speed Automatic transmission and 4 Wheel Drive. The V-Cross has a crew cab that comfortably seat 4 people is like an SUV with an extended cargo section.

Tata Yodha
Based on the once popular Tata Xenon pick-up truck, which was previously offered by the company as a private vehicle, the Tata Yodha does not miss out on manufacturer reliability. Powered by a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine, the pick-up produces decent power and torque figures of 100BHP and 250Nm respectively. Unlike the Xenon, which had a crew cab, the Yodha has a standard cab that can seat 2. This pick-up is offered by Tata in 3 payload capacities of 1200kgs, 1500kgs and 1700kgs.

Mahindra Imperio:
Mahindra has a strong presence in the pick-up truck market since the company had entered the automobile market with transport vehicles and then turned towards passenger vehicles. Gaining experience from both the fields, Mahindra has a fleet of pick-up trucks on offer. One of their finest offerings from this fleet is the Imperio pick-up truck. Available in both standard cabin and crew cabin sizes, passenger space is not an issue with the Imperio. The pick-up is powered by a trusted 2.5L turbocharged engine producing 75BHP power and 220Nm of torque.

Mahindra Bolero Camper
Another reliable pick-up truck from Mahindra is the Bolero Camper. Powered by the same 2.5L m2DiCR Turbocharged diesel engine found in the Imperio, the Camper generates 75BHP of power and 200Nm of torgue. The Camper is a spacious double cabin pick-up with an ample payload of 1000kgs. The cabin is comfortably furnished with power windows, faux leather seats and air conditioning and the interiors are done in beige and tan colours. Equipped with 4 wheel drive, this truck is designed for off-roading. However, because of its cargo section, this truck will have to be registered as a commercial vehicle under Indian regulations.
