Porsche's Next EV Will Be The 718

- The 718 could be an ultra lightweight EV weighing 1,600 kg
- It will be lighter than the Taycan which weighs upwards of 2,200 kgs
- Porsche is not planning an 911 EV or hybrid car
After tasting incredible success with the Taycan, Porsche has now set its eyes on developing another EV as per a report by Car and Driver. It will be the 718 according to the report but the report also adds that the German giant from Stuttgart has no plans of making either an electric or hybrid version of its iconic 911 sports car -- and that car will be based on gasoline power well into the 2030s which means it could just become a niche enthusiast model. The 718 will be offered in a soft-top Boxter and hardtop Cayman model and the styling will be similar to the current model though it will feature a brand new electric front design. The Mission R concept has clues to what Porsche is up to. Porsche has an ambition of making a very lightweight electric car that could weigh as little as 1655.6 kg which would be over 660 kg less than the Taycan.

The Taycan Cross Turismo is the latest avatar of the EV that Porsche has championed since 2020
Porsche is developing a new platform that is not just the shortened version of the PPE platform as it is more advanced featuring lightweight technology. Car and Driver believe that this could be the most modern Porsche ever. It is said that the entry-level models will have a single rear motor and they will have a price similar to the current 718. The higher-end SKU will have dual motors, all-wheel-drive traction, and will have a driving range of around 402 km.
This means the 718 could reach 911 levels of price and performance, though it will be less powerful than the Taycan with a 2024 launch window.
