The Renault-Nissan Alliance announced it will invest USD 800 million in Argentina through 2018  as it prepares to launch its first dedicated pickup truck manufacturing line to produce vehicles for Nissan, Renault and Alliance partner, Daimler. Furthermore, Renault Argentina also announced it will invest another USD 100 million in a new model to be produced at the Santa Isabel plant in Cordoba, which follows a USD 100 million investment in March 2015 for the production of Renault Sandero, Sandero Stepway, and Logan models at the plant. The Renault Alaskan will also be produced at Santa Isabel.

Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO, Renault-Nissan Alliance, said, "The Renault-Nissan Alliance is deeply committed to Argentina and the local partners who are joining these ambitious projects. As the third-largest automotive market and the centre of pickup manufacturing in Latin America, Argentina is key to the regional growth plans of our brands."

Renault's investments in Argentina are aimed at utilization of the manufacturing complex and to reaffirm its confidence in this market. Additionally, Renault has set its sight on the number 2 sales position in Argentina this year and is targeting "leadership in the mid term".

Renault took the wraps off the Alaskan, its first ever full-tonne pick-up truck, in June 2016. Developed in France, Japan and Latin America, the Renault Alaskan will be the company's second pickup after the Renault Duster Oroch, which was launched in 2015.
