Highlights

  • Rivian has just delivered 42 cars and made 56 R1T models
  • It has averaged around 2 cars per day since starting production
  • The R1T has been well reviewed and overall it has around 50,000 preorders

Rivian is one of the hottest EV startups on the planet with it being backed by Amazon and Ford. Its new EV - the R1T which has also been seen in the Apple TV+ original "the long way up" and was used by Jeff Bezos and William Shatner more recently for their "Blue Origin" flights to outer space is now available for deliveries and slowly but surely the company is starting to ramp up its production. Rivian has so far delivered 42 cars and made in total 56 electric pick-up trucks with it being the first of its kind to hit the streets ahead of cars like the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning. On average. Rivian is making 2 cars per day. These numbers are based on when it started production which was September 14 and its filing to the US SEC on October 22 revealed these numbers.

"In the consumer market, we launched the R1 platform with our first-generation consumer vehicle, the R1T, a two-row five-passenger pickup truck, and began making customer deliveries in September 2021. As of September 30, 2021, we produced 12 R1Ts and delivered 11 R1Ts, and as of October 22 2021, we produced 56 R1Ts and delivered 42 R1Ts," it said in the filing.

This means that Rivian isn't rushing production but rather perfecting its processes - but even by those metrics, these are lowly figures. Rivian has around 48,000 preorders for both the R1T and R1S - but it could also be slow because it has to deliver vans for Amazon which it has custom-made for the e-commerce and cloud computing giant.

But according to its previous disclosures, its plans to ramp up production for the Amazon electric delivery vans will only happen in December. There are two models for the vans the 500 Van and the 700 Van and around about the same time it will also ramp up production for the R1S SUV.
