The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has become the UK’s bestselling motorcycle above 125 cc in the first seven months of 2022, overtaking the BMW R 1250 GS from top spot after several years. The Meteor 350 was launched in the UK in 2021 and has been a success story for Royal Enfield in the UK, after the Interceptor 650 and the Himalayan. With its entry-level, low capacity cruiser vibes, the Meteor 350 has no real competition in the UK, but it has managed to find 1,135 customers in the UK between January 2022 and the end of July 2022.

The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is the entry-level cruiser based on the new 350 cc J-Series platform from Royal Enfield.

 

The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 made its debut as the first 350 cc Royal Enfield based on the new J-Series 350 cc engine and built around a new dual-cradle frame. The new 350 cc uses a primary balancer shaft and overhead camshaft to reduce vibrations and increase the usable rev range. In numbers, it makes 20.2 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm, with a wider torque spread, from around 2,400 rpm to 4,500 rpm.

New 350 cc J-Series engine has a primary balancer shaft and single overhead camshaft, doing away with the pushrod architecture of the earlier 350 cc Royal Enfield engines. It produces 20.2 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

The same J-Series 350 cc engine and frame has also been used in the new Royal Enfield Classic 350, the brand’s bestselling model in India, and a model which accounts for nearly 80 per cent of Royal Enfield’s overall sales. The recently unveiled Hunter 350, a retro-styled compact roadster, is also based on the same J-Series engine, and it will be offered on sale in Western markets as well, including the UK, other countries in Europe, as well as across the Atlantic, in North America.

The Hunter 350 is the latest neo-retro roadster from Royal Enfield based on the same J-Series engine. It's more compact, lighter and comes with smaller 17-inch wheels than the other 350 cc siblings in the Royal Enfield family.

The Meteor 350 is the latest success story for the Indian motorcycle brand in the UK, after the Interceptor 650, which was the fourth bestselling motorcycle above 125 cc in the UK in 2021. The popularity of the Himalayan in the UK markets is also noteworthy, which is now the second highest-selling adventure motorcycle in the UK, after the BMW R 1250 GS.
