  • Skoda has used sustainable materials in the cabin of the Vision S concept

Skoda is working on a new design language for its cars and the company has previewed the same with the new Vision S Concept. The new concept study reveals a spacious vehicle with a completely new and versatile interior architecture and can offer space for up to seven people in the cabin. The minimalist interior uses a lot of sustainable materials.

Head of Skoda Design, Oliver Stefani, explained, “The new design language is minimalist, functional and authentic. In the future, we will continue to focus on Skoda's traditional strengths, such as generous space, easy usability and a high degree of functionality. With our new design language, we are taking the next step and placing even greater emphasis on the customer experience. The great creativity of our designers and engineers is demonstrated through movable interior elements and newly developed Simply Clever features such as an integrated child seat. The deliberately minimalist lines also extend the clear exterior design into the interior.”

What's interesting is the six-seat cabin with a child seat integrated in the centre console. The latter is explained as a "simply clever" idea and the company says the safest place inside a vehicle is where the toddler sits. That's said, it's not clear at the moment about what makes it so safe in the first place.

Apart from the seat, the Skoda Vision S Concept study gets a massive glass roof with a dashboard similar to the Enyaq. An optimally positioned hand rest makes interacting with the touch screen and haptic buttons easy and convenient. Haptic controls are also integrated into the redesigned steering wheel. The front seat backrests gets special holders for multimedia devices, along with backpacks integrated into them. The screen on the Vision S Concept study also gets a tablet-like touchscreen and the same will tilt depending on if the autonomous driving mode has been engaged. Other highlights include body-hugging seats with built-in seatbelts.

There's no word on whether the Vision S will make it to production. However, you can expect several of its cues to make it production cars in the future. The concept rides on an electric platform with a long wheelbase and short overhangs and is likely to be about the same size as the Karoq, albeit with a Kodiaq-sized cabin.
