New Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Spotted Testing

A heavily camouflaged test mule of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been spotted testing, hinting at another update for the brand’s long-running tall-boy hatchback. The current, third-generation Wagon R arrived in India in 2019 and has since received updates in 2022 and 2025, mainly bringing cosmetic and feature changes.

As is visible, the test car is covered from end to end, so the extent of the changes is not clear yet. However, Maruti could give the Wagon R a revised grille and front bumper, along with a new set of alloy wheels. The headlamps, side profile and rear section appear likely to retain their existing design. Furthermore, a refreshed colour palette is likely to be part of the update.

The spy images also offer a quick glimpse at the interior. The touchscreen appears noticeably larger than the 7-inch unit currently offered on the Wagon R, with the test car seemingly getting a 9-inch display similar to the one used in the Baleno. Other cabin changes could include new upholstery, a layered dashboard design and additional features.

As for powertrain, the Wagon R currently gets two petrol engines. The entry-level option is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10C making 66 bhp and 82 Nm, while the larger 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N churns out 89 bhp and 113 Nm. Both engines can be paired with either a five-speed manual or five-speed AMT. However, powertrain options could change in this update.

The carmaker is likely to replace the four-cylinder 1.2-litre K12N with its newer 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder engine. The same also happened in the new Baleno, Swift and Dzire. It produces less power than the outgoing four-cylinder motor, but Maruti claims to have focused on improving efficiency with the newer engine. A CNG version is expected to continue as part of the Wagon R lineup.

The Wagon R remains one of Maruti Suzuki’s strongest sellers and has been a familiar presence in the Indian market for years.
