Stoffel Vandoorne Wins The 2022 Formula E World Championship

Stoffel Vandoorne has claimed his maiden Formula E World Championship, as the Belgian crossed the line in P2 in Round 15 of the 2022 Formula E Championship. The Belgian driver started the race in P4, and showed great composure to maintain pace throughout the race, to come home in the podium places. Coming into the final race, only Mitch Evans had a mathematical chance to win the championship other than Vandoorne, but starting in P14, he never came close to achieving the same. In the end, Vandoorne secured his championship with a big 33 point lead over the rest of the field, in a season that looked very close in the first half.

Mercedes-EQ Formula E team will soon morph into McLaren Formula E team as the Gen3 era kicks off in 2023, and the team bagged both the championships as they depart the sport. The Brixworth based team has won two double championships in a row now, as Mercedes has shown its dominance in multiple different forms of racing, including Formula 1, and GT3.

While Nyck De Vries won the 2021 World Driver's Championship, he didn't have the best luck this season and was not in the running for the championship for the most part. De Vries had to retire from the Seoul E-Prix too, and that played into Venturi Racing's hand, as the team looked closer to win the constructor's championship as Mortara was leading the race. But Vandoorne did just about enough to hand Mercedes its second title in Formula E, and Mortara's teammate Di Grassi - who is set to join Mahindra Racing next year - fell out of points.
