Suzuki GSX-R1000 Recalled In The US

- Over 3,100 bikes are affected by the recall
- The issue is with a fault in the engine control module (ECM)
- Suzuki will replace the ECM and chain and sprockets free of charge
Suzuki has issued a recall of certain Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycles of 2017 and 2018 model year, for an issue with the electronics and drivetrain. Over 3,000 motorcycles will be affected by this problem which is regarding a potential breaking of the chain. According to recall documents, the chain on the Suzuki GSX-R1000 may break when upshifting between first and second gear. The problem is specifically due to a problem in the programming of the Engine Control Module (ECM), and Suzuki America will notify affected owners, and Suzuki dealers will replace the ECM, and inspect and replace the chain and sprockets, as necessary, free of charge.
The problem was first reported in a bike in France, but a few other bikes with similar problems were also reported in the US. After examining the affected bikes, Suzuki was able to find fault in the programming of the ECM. The problem occurs if the rider fails to engage second gear from first and a neutral condition gets created, and cause very high engine rpm. If the rider then shifts to second without disengaging the clutch, the motorcycle's chain may stretch or break.

The Suzuki GSX-R1000R is a proper litre-class superbike with a high level of performance
The recall on the affected bikes is expected to begin immediately. The Suzuki GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R were launched in India in May 2017. Late last year, Suzuki introduced new colours on the GSX-R1000 as well, and is expected to be displayed at the Auto Expo 2018. So far, Suzuki has said that none of the bikes in India are affected by the recall. The GSX-R1000 is powered by a 999 cc, in-line four cylinder engine making 199 bhp at 13,200 rpm and 117.6 Nm of peak torque at 10,800 rpm. The top-of-the-line Suzuki GSX-R1000R gets higher-spec Showa Balance Free forks, cornering ABS, bi-directional quickshifter and launch control. Both bikes are brought to India as completely built units (CBUs) and the GSX-R1000R costs Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom) while the GSX-R1000 costs Rs. 19 lakh (ex-showroom).
