1972 Porsche 917/10 Spyder: $5,830,000

In 1972, the Can-Am races were dominated by the Porche 917/10. The beast finished first in five races out of a total of nine. The car won its first Can-Am championship in 1972 when George Folmer was the driver. 

It had a 5.4-litre  twin-turbo 12-cylinder engine and had 1,150 horsepower. This beast accelerated from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. 

The Porche 917/10 Spyder was sold for $5,830,000 at the Mecum Monetary Auction in 2012.

1985 Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar: $5,945,000

The 1985 Porche 959 Paris-Dakar was launched in 1983 at the Motor Show in Frankfurt. The car was powered by a 3.2-litre Porsche 911 Carrera engine with 230 horsepower and was a group B rally car. 

The German automaker used the 911 chassis to build the 959, and out of the seven prototypes that Porche built, the 959 was among the three Paris-Dakar's which entered the Paris-Dakar rally in 1985. 

It was auctioned at Porche's 70th anniversary by RM Sotheby's for a massive $5,945,000.

1956 Porsche 550 Rennsport Spyder: $6,100,000

This German beauty is infamously known for being James Dean's car when he was killed in 1955. This car did not participate in any rally competitions and had its original parts. Most endurance racing cars have their parts replaced after long races but not this one. 

The Bonham's Goodwood revival in 2015 saw the car being auctioned for a whopping $6,100,000. The car had an air-cooled four-cylinder engine that pushed 110 ponies.

1982 Porsche 956: $10,120,000

The 1982 Porche 956 was among the first few racecars that used ground effects at the Le Mans in 1983 to improve aerodynamics. The car has a 2.65-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine which generated 630 horsepower at 8,200rpm. 

This mighty beast car company arguably produced the most successful racecars that won the 1983 Le Man's race and four other races according to endurance racing history. 

The Pebble Beach Auction saw the 1982 Porsche 956 be the second most expensive racecar to be auctioned. Gooding and Company sold it for $10,120,000.

1970 Porsche 917K: $14,080,000

The renowned 1970, 917K is the most famous and arguably the most renowned Porche globally. This car garnered attention when it starred in Steve McQueen's Le Mans. It was a legendary racing film, and the German-built machine gained a massive fan following. 

The car had a 4.5-litre 12-cylinder engine under the hood and contained 600 horsepower, which stood at 8,300rpm. The car produced 415 lb-ft torque at 6,400rpm. 

This masterpiece sat in a barn for about 20 years and came into the limelight in 2001. Gooding and the Company auctioned this timeless beauty in 2017 at the Pebble Beach Auction, and the car fetched $14,080,000.
